PEPSI has always supported national football teams. This is a strategy widely reflected through various Pepsi football activities, which sets the stage for the emergence of next generation Bahraini players, and may one day, be a member of the next generation of Pepsi Stars, such as Beckham, Henry, Ronaldhino, etc,. Pepsi not only helps to introduce the game to the next generation of participants, but also provides an opportunity for players of all ages, the abilities to develop their skills and understanding, which can enhance their enjoyment of football.
The “PEPSI BAHRAIN STAR SQUAD 2006” was held in the training grounds of Bahrain Football Association, featuring players from the five Governorates of the Kingdom, namely Southern Governorate, Central Governorate, Muharaq Governorate, Capital Governorate and Northern Governorate. With thousands of participants and a large number of spectators in five weeks of the event, the Pepsi Star Squad, youth initiative first ever Inter-Governorate Competition, has notably become the focal discussion point at all majlis, club, and social gatherings, one of the largest football tournaments, with most participants in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The program encouraged the youth to be the best they be, and an ideal way for youngsters to develop their skills in a challenging game.
The PEPSI Starsqaud Initiative was founded behind one main objective; to find new youth talent in Bahrain. Out of the thousands of players, finally 22 players were selected to be extremely talented youth soccer players to represent Bahrain. They were trained for two weeks by the most sought after Soccer coaches and were sent to Chelsea Club, UK to train and compete with one of the best Soccer clubs in the world.
The Rules
PEPSI STAR SQUAD 06 has very simple rules and the entire event was monitored by “game observers” and Technical Evaluators; comprising of the best certified coaches in the Kingdom. Each team comprised of 6 players, and the games were played on small pitches. 15 minutes were allotted to each match without a half time. The top winning teams qualify to represent their Governorate in the Inter-Governorate Competition, and winning team is CROWNED as the Kingdom U14 CHAMPION. To participate in the event, it was required that players must formulate a team of 6 players and must submit 3 team names of their chosen. Each player must be born on or after 1992 and must be a Bahraini citizen. In addition to all the fun and excitement the event’s main objectives were to focus and identify raw talents, identifying regions with an in-dept talent base and introduction of the Inter-Governorate Team Completion.
Logistics, Food & Beverages
The event management ensured stat of the art logistic facilities mainly keeping in view the player’s age [8-14 years]. In addition, the management also ensured that every participant is provided high quality food and meals. As a whole, over 4,000 meals of different menu were served and 8,000 Pepsi beverages were given out.
